A private Bosphorus yacht is the one cruise where you set the time, the route and the music. You pay for the boat, not the seat, so the maths changes completely with group size: for a couple it is an indulgence, for eight to twelve friends it costs about the same per head as a premium shared sunset yacht. This page covers what a 2-hour charter really costs, what the quote leaves out, where the boats board and which listings on GetYourGuide, Headout and Tiqets are what they claim to be.

Private yacht price: what 2 hours really cost

Charter prices are published per hour or per 2-hour block, for the whole boat. These are the figures operators and platforms show today:

Who Boat Price What it covers
Lotus Yat (direct) 15–17 m, up to 12 guests 7,000 TL per hour Boat and crew
Lotus Yat (direct) 19–21 m, up to 20–30 8,500 TL per hour Boat and crew
Lotus Yat (direct) 24–25 m, up to 36 9,500 TL per hour Boat and crew
Golden City Tours (direct) Yacht for up to 30 From €400 for 2 h, up to 15 guests Guide, tea, coffee, lemonade, snacks, small sandwiches, fruit
Luxury Yacht Rental Istanbul (direct) 8–25-guest yachts From €200 per hour, €400 for 2 h Crew, fuel, insurance, Wi-Fi
Tiqets 1104405 Private yacht from Bebek €320 for 2 h Crew, tea and coffee; no guide
GetYourGuide 2-hour private yachts Most from about $275–320 Varies by listing

The cheapest 2-hour private listings on GetYourGuide start at about $141 (this one), and the 19 m boat in GYG 565316 shows from $140 because that price is its 1-hour option. Lotus Yat also sells single hours, but only in low season. Everyone else works to a 2-hour minimum.

Bigger boats climb steeply: Lotus lists a 30 m yacht at 29,000 TL per hour, and reception boats for 120 guests and more are quote-only. Some agencies quote without the 20 % VAT and add about €45 for every embarkation at a public pier. Ask whether the price is "all in" before you compare.

Lowest adult price per person in US dollars, checked on October 17, 2026. Boat, departure time and what is included differ between listings: open each one before you pay.

The three rows are not the same product: the GetYourGuide price is a 1-hour yacht, Headout bundles dinner, drinks and transfers, and Tiqets is 2 hours from Bebek with no guide. Compare per hour, not the headline number.

Private or shared: when a whole boat pays off

Shared sunset yachts cost roughly $17–75 per person (see the sunset cruise guide); the premium small-group ones with a live guide sit around €45–60 direct. A private boat starts at about €320–400 for 2 hours. The break-even point arrives quickly:

  • Two people: €400 for the boat is €200 each, four times a good shared yacht. Only worth it for an occasion (see proposals and romantic cruises).
  • Six people: Golden City's €400 works out at about €67 each, close to a premium shared sunset seat, with the boat to yourselves.
  • Ten to twelve people: two hours on a 15–17 m Lotus boat is 14,000 TL for up to twelve, and Golden City's €400 covers up to fifteen. Per head you are at or below the price of the €45–60 shared yachts.

What you buy with the extra money is control. You choose the departure time to the minute for sunset, you can stop the engine for photos at Ortaköy or the Maiden's Tower, you bring your own playlist, and nobody else's children are on deck. On a shared boat the route and timing are fixed and the open deck fills first.

What the price includes, and what costs extra

A standard charter includes the boat, the captain and crew, fuel, a music system and tea, coffee and water. One agency (Luxury Yacht Rental Istanbul) also lists insurance and Wi-Fi. Beyond that, almost everything is an extra:

  • Food: snacks, a mezze plate or a full dinner are priced separately unless the listing says otherwise. Golden City includes snacks and small sandwiches.
  • Alcohol: never in the base price. Tiqets 1104405 excludes alcohol and bottled drinks.
  • Guide: included on some platform listings (GYG 681083, 794003) and with Golden City; one agency quotes €325 for a guide on top of a €650 boat.
  • Decoration and entertainment: flowers, banners, champagne, a violinist, a photographer, a laser projection on the bridge. Lotus Yat sells all of these as paid add-ons and does not publish prices.
  • Transfers: usually extra. Golden City charges €100 one way or €150 return for up to six people.
  • VAT and pier fees: see above. Hotel piers usually avoid the public-pier fee.

Where private yachts board: Bebek, Kuruçeşme, Kabataş and hotel piers

Bosphorus day charters board at piers along the strait, not at marinas. Lotus Yat names Kuruçeşme, Bebek, Arnavutköy, Karaköy, Kandilli and Kuleli as its usual ports; Golden City meets at Kabataş Square; Tiqets 1104405 boards at Bebek–Arnavutköy Caddesi 38. Istanbul's big marinas, Ataköy on the European Marmara coast and Kalamış–Fenerbahçe on the Asian side, are far from the strait and do not run day tours.

At Kabataş, most yachts use the private landing by the Kadoil petrol station on Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi 34, opposite the tram stop. Tickets sometimes call it "Dolmabahçe Mosque". It is not the ferry terminal; the Kabataş pier guide shows the whole strip.

Five-star hotels on the water have their own piers: the Four Seasons Bosphorus, Çırağan Palace Kempinski, the Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental and Sumahan. A boat collecting you there avoids the public-pier fee and saves you a taxi. If you are staying elsewhere, Bebek is the classic charter start: you are already above the first bridge, so more of your 2 hours is spent on the scenic part of the strait.

The exact boarding point often arrives only with the voucher or by WhatsApp. Check it the day before. The piers overview explains which landing is which.

How far you get in 2 hours

Two hours is enough for the full standard loop with time to idle. The public Dentur loop covers Kabataş to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and back in about 75 minutes without stopping. A private boat with 2 hours can do the same route slowly, stop for photos and still swing past the Maiden's Tower on the way home.

A typical private route from Kabataş or Bebek: Dolmabahçe Palace, Çırağan, the Ortaköy Mosque framed by the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, the wooden houses of Arnavutköy, Bebek Bay, the fortress of Rumeli Hisarı at the narrowest point of the strait (about 700 m), then under the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. Coming back down the Asian shore you pass Anadolu Hisarı, the Küçüksu Pavilion, Kandilli, Kuleli and Beylerbeyi Palace. The landmarks guide lists them in order.

Want the Black Sea mouth, Anadolu Kavağı or Yoros Castle? That needs a longer charter: the public ferry alone takes almost 2 hours from Eminönü to Anadolu Kavağı. Ask for a quote for 4 hours or more, or take the Black Sea cruise instead.

The platform listings, decoded

GetYourGuide lists about 30 private yachts in Istanbul and does not name the supplier in its feed; each one is run by a local licensed operator named on the booking page. A few things the listing titles do not tell you:

  • GYG 681083 (4.8 from 240 reviews) is the private yacht with the most reviews: 2 hours, guide and snacks. Our pick for a first charter.
  • GYG 794003 and 834531 use the same cover photo, so they are very likely the same supplier and the same boat. Do not treat them as two independent options.
  • GYG 692135 "Eco#8" has no reviews yet. "Eco#8" and "Pre#6" read like a fleet's internal boat codes. The old "Pre#6" listing has gone; near-twins sell on.
  • GYG 1146684 carries a typo in its title and a web address left over from a dinner-cruise listing, with only 7 reviews. Read it carefully before paying $463.
  • GYG 457399, the $1,122 marriage-proposal yacht with dinner, has no reviews yet.
  • Headout 23271 was renamed and now includes dinner, drinks and hotel transfers, for up to 10 people. Headout's other private yacht, with optional swim stops, cannot be cancelled and does not say where the swim stops are.
  • Tiqets 1104405 is sold by Travelpedia, an agency registered in Eskişehir that resells Istanbul yachts. It is 2 hours from Bebek, crew and tea or coffee only, no guide.

Booking direct or on a platform

On a platform you get a fixed price, a calendar and, on most GetYourGuide listings, free cancellation up to 24 hours before plus reserve now, pay later. Tiqets 1104405 also cancels free up to 24 hours. The trade-off: the supplier is usually not named in the title, and the route and inclusions are fixed by the listing. See GetYourGuide vs Headout vs Tiqets for the platforms' rules.

Direct you can choose the boat size, the pier and the extras, and for groups of 10 or more you often get more boat for the money. Golden City publishes its private yacht from €400 for 2 hours with guide and snacks (details on its site); its yacht can even sleep up to 8 on request. Direct terms are stricter: Lotus Yat asks for 7 days' notice to cancel a private charter, and proposal packages usually take a deposit with the balance paid on board.

Book at least 2 days ahead; Headout operators state this as a minimum for private tours. In summer and on holidays, go further ahead, especially for sunset slots.

Weather, safety and the 36-passenger rule

Under Turkish rules a commercial yacht (ticari yat) may carry at most 36 passengers on domestic trips (law commentary). A "yacht for 40 or 50" is a tour boat built to look like a yacht. Fine for a party, but it will be bigger and less private than the photos suggest.

The lodos, the strong south-westerly wind that blows from October to April with a peak in December, makes the strait rough and regularly cancels exposed ferry lines. On a charter the captain decides whether to sail or postpone. Platform bookings are rebooked or refunded under the platform's terms; for a direct charter, agree in advance what happens if the captain cancels for weather.

There has been no major tour-boat disaster on the Bosphorus in recent years. The closest case for charters: a rented yacht with 15 passengers took on water after leaving Bebek pier on 11 June 2023, returned and sank at the pier; everyone got off and nobody was hurt (press report). Boats carry life jackets; ask about the safety briefing when you board.

Practical limits: yachts are not wheelchair accessible, drones are forbidden on board, and smoking is not allowed in enclosed areas.

Birthdays, proposals and business groups

Agencies rent the same yachts for birthdays, business meetings and dinner parties. For a proposal, the standard package is boarding at Bebek, a pause near the Maiden's Tower and a laser projection of your names on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge. Our proposal and romantic cruise guide covers what that costs and how to avoid paying twice. For groups that would rather not organise anything, a dinner cruise private table is the cheaper alternative, and the yacht cruise with an Asian-side stop adds a Kanlıca coffee break to a shared trip.

How much does a private yacht on the Bosphorus cost?

About €320–400 for a 2-hour charter direct (Tiqets 1104405 €320, Golden City from €400 for up to 15) and about $275–320 on GetYourGuide. The cheapest platform listings start around $140 for a 2-hour boat or a 1-hour option. Lotus Yat charges from 7,000 TL per hour for a 15–17 m boat.

Is the private yacht price per person or per boat?

Per boat. The listed price covers the whole group up to the boat's limit, typically 10–15 on platform listings and up to 36 on the largest commercial yachts.

What is included in a private Bosphorus yacht rental?

Captain, crew, fuel, a music system and tea, coffee and water. Food, alcohol, decoration and transfers are extra; the guide is included on some listings only. Ask whether the quote includes the 20 % VAT and any public-pier fee.

Where do private yachts leave from in Istanbul?

From piers along the strait: Bebek, Kuruçeşme, Arnavutköy, Kabataş (the Kadoil landing on Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi), Karaköy, and the piers of waterfront hotels such as the Four Seasons Bosphorus and Çırağan Palace. Not from the marinas.

Can you go to the Black Sea on a 2-hour private yacht?

No. Two hours takes you to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and back with time to spare. The Black Sea mouth at Anadolu Kavağı needs a charter of 4 hours or more.

How far in advance should I book a private yacht in Istanbul?

At least 2 days ahead; operators on Headout state that as the minimum for private tours. Sunset slots in summer and on public holidays go earlier.
