Bosphorus breakfast cruise: morning yachts, brunch boats and the ferry
The Bosphorus breakfast cruise with a real track record is a 2-hour morning yacht with Turkish breakfast for about $73; most others have a handful of reviews or a private price. Morning light falls on the European palaces, and the boats are quieter than at sunset.

A Bosphorus breakfast cruise is the least crowded way onto the water. The evening belongs to sunset yachts and dinner ships; in the morning there are fewer boats, the light is on the European palaces, and you can still fit a palace, a bazaar or a ferry to the Asian side into the same day.
The choice is narrower than for sunset or dinner cruises. Only one shared breakfast yacht on the platforms has a solid base of reviews, a few new ones have almost none, and several listings with "breakfast" in the title are private boats priced for a group. This page sorts out which is which, adds the dining boat that sails from Karaköy, and shows how to do a morning on the strait with a public ferry and breakfast ashore.
Why go in the morning
The light. The European-shore palaces, Dolmabahçe and Çırağan, face the water towards the east and south-east, so the morning sun lights their façades. In the afternoon the light moves to the Asian shore, onto Beylerbeyi and Küçüksu. If palace photos matter, the morning is the time. See the landmarks in order for what stands where.
Fewer people. Most boats on the strait are built around the sunset and dinner hours. Headout's own advice for its daytime cruises is to board between 10:00 and 13:00, because cruises fill up after 15:00, especially in summer.
The day stays free. A 2-hour morning cruise is back around midday. From Kabataş, the Dolmabahçe Palace gate is about a 10-minute walk.
The trade-offs. There is no sunset, obviously, and no show. Fog on the Bosphorus is mostly a morning event: on dense-fog days the strait closes to big ships, city ferries cancel some lines, and the operator decides whether a tour boat sails. In winter, sunrise comes after 08:00 from late November to early February, so a 09:00 cruise in December is in low, early light, which is beautiful but cold on deck.

Karaköy dining boat
Breakfast on Le Vapeur Magique from Karaköy, from about $51 on Headout. A dining-boat business in operation since 1976, according to its site; no Headout reviews yet.
The reviewed one. Morning Bosphorus Yacht Cruise & Turkish Breakfast is the safe pick: a 2-hour shared yacht with breakfast and unlimited tea, rated 4.9. It costs about the same as the premium sunset yachts. The operator is named on the booking page; check the meeting point and the boat in the listing before you pay.
The new and the unproven. The 3-hour cruise with Turkish breakfast is the cheapest, but six reviews are not a track record. A yacht cruise with Turkish breakfast at about $111 and a 4-hour coastal breakfast cruise have no reviews yet.
"Morning or sunset" is mostly sunset. The Morning or Sunset Cruise at about $17 is a plain sightseeing boat, and its description is written about the sunset departure. It includes no breakfast. Fine as a cheap morning loop, not as a breakfast cruise.
Headout's "brunch" listing changed. A Headout product once sold as a brunch cruise with a private table and live music is now a lunch cruise, rated 2.4 from five reviews. We leave it out.

Le Vapeur Magique: breakfast from Karaköy
Le Vapeur Magique is a dining boat on the Bosphorus that has been serving guests since 1976, according to its own site. It runs breakfast cruises, dinner cruises and a "five o'clock tea" cruise, and it hosts birthdays and team events. The boat leaves from Karaköy pier, and the operator asks guests to be at the pier 30 minutes before departure. Children count as passengers; infants travel free. On its own booking system you can choose a "zone" on deck.
What we cannot tell you: whether the boat is a restored steam ferry (the name suggests it, the site does not say), how many people it carries, and what the breakfast costs direct. The Headout breakfast listing starts at about $51 and has no reviews yet. Smart-casual dress is suggested. Read the cancellation terms on the listing before you pay, because Headout sets them per product. Our Le Vapeur Magique review has the rest.
The same booking system also sells a breakfast cruise under the name Port Bosphorus, departing from the Galataport pier. Whether the two brands share an owner is not published.
Find the right pier
Karaköy has several landings. Le Vapeur Magique uses "Karaköy pier"; the Galataport pier is a short walk east along the waterfront. Check the voucher, and see our Karaköy pier guide for the layout.
Private breakfast yachts
Several breakfast listings are private boats. Their from-prices look odd next to the $25–73 shared cruises because they cover a whole group:
- Morning Cruise with Breakfast: from about $314, rated 4.2 from 34 reviews.
- Private Yacht Breakfast Cruise: from about $384, very few reviews.
- Private Breakfast Cruise on a Luxury Yacht: from about $785, two reviews.
Check whether the price is per boat or per person and how many guests it covers before you compare. Private yachts on the Bosphorus are priced per boat with a 2-hour minimum; crew, fuel and tea or coffee are included, while food, alcohol and decoration are often extra, so a breakfast package is a real difference. For 8–12 people, a private boat can cost about the same per head as a premium shared cruise. Book at least two days ahead. More on charters on our private yacht page.

Where the morning boats go
A 2-hour morning cruise follows the standard loop: up the European shore past the palaces, under the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, to Rumeli Hisarı or the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and back down the Asian side.

Sit on the left going north. That is the European side: Dolmabahçe, Çırağan (now a hotel) and Ortaköy Mosque with the bridge behind it, all in morning light. On the way back the Asian shore is on your left; Beylerbeyi Palace looks its best later, in the afternoon light.
Morning yachts with a stop. Some daytime yachts stop for 30 minutes at Kanlıca on the Asian shore, where the local yoghurt is eaten with powdered sugar (at your own cost; it is never included). Velena Travel, for example, sells a morning yacht cruise from 10:30 to 13:00 with an Asian-side stop on its own site. See yacht cruises with an Asian-side stop.
A morning on the public ferry instead
If breakfast does not have to be on the boat, the public ferries give you a morning on the strait for a fraction of the price. Eat a breakfast ashore, then board.
| Breakfast yacht | Public ferry | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | about $25–73 per person | Long Tour 640 TL return (foreign visitors); Dentur loop 250 TL |

The Şehir Hatları Long Tour is the classic morning departure. It leaves Eminönü at 10:35 and goes the whole length of the strait to Anadolu Kavağı, a fishing village by the Black Sea mouth, with about 2.5 hours ashore and a single boat back. Tickets are sold at the Bosphorus-tour booth at Eminönü, east of the Galata Bridge: 640 TL return for foreign visitors, 320 TL for Turkish citizens, 160 TL for children under 12.

These are the winter times (in force from early September to late June). Check sehirhatlari.istanbul or the booth on the day; the official site does not always load. More on the Long Tour and the ruined castle above the village on our Black Sea and full Bosphorus page.
Dentur Avrasya runs a shorter non-stop loop of about 75 minutes from Kabataş, with its first departure at 10:30 (Beşiktaş 10:40), up to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and back along the Asian shore. It costs 250 TL at the booth or 200 TL online, and children up to 10 ride free. Times on denturavrasya.com. Every option is compared in our public ferry guide.

Combine a morning cruise with Dolmabahçe
Dolmabahçe Palace sits right on the cruise route and a 10-minute walk from Kabataş, so it pairs naturally with a morning on the water: see the façade from the boat, then walk in through the Clock Tower gate, or visit first and board afterwards.
- Ticket: one foreign-visitor ticket of 2,000 TL covers the Selamlık, the Harem and the Painting Museum. The Museum Pass is not valid here.
- Hours: ticket offices 09:00–17:00.
- Closed: Mondays (except on 10 November).
- Inside: phone photos without flash are allowed; no cameras, tripods or strollers.
Official details on millisaraylar.gov.tr. Our Dolmabahçe and Bosphorus cruise page covers the combo tickets.
Another morning idea is breakfast on the Princes' Islands: the islands boats leave Eminönü, Kabataş and Bostancı in the morning, and a serpme (spread) breakfast on Büyükada or Heybeliada costs about 750–1,500 TL per person. The islands are in the Sea of Marmara, not on the Bosphorus; see the Princes' Islands guide.
Practical tips
Bring a layer. Even in summer the open deck is cooler in the morning, and from November to March daytime highs are only about 10–16 °C. Operators themselves warn of wind on deck.
Check the weather the evening before. Fog and the lodos, a strong south-westerly wind that peaks in December, are the two things that stop morning boats. The operator decides; on GetYourGuide most listings can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before, and if the boat is cancelled the platform rebooks or refunds you under its terms.
Food needs. Breakfast menus are fixed by the operator. Ask about vegetarian or other requirements when you book, not at the pier.
Afternoon instead? If you prefer the Asian palaces lit or simply sleep late, a sunset cruise is the evening version of the same loop.
Bosphorus breakfast cruise: questions
Is there a breakfast cruise on the Bosphorus?
Yes. The best-reviewed is GetYourGuide's Morning Bosphorus Yacht Cruise with Turkish breakfast: 2 hours, about $73, rated 4.9. Le Vapeur Magique runs breakfast cruises from Karaköy, and several private yachts sell breakfast packages from about $300 per group.
How much does a Bosphorus breakfast cruise cost?
Shared breakfast cruises cost about $25–73 per person. Private breakfast yachts start around $300 and go much higher, usually for the whole boat or group. The public Long Tour without breakfast costs 640 TL return for foreign visitors.
What time do morning Bosphorus cruises leave?
Velena Travel's morning yacht runs from 10:30 to 13:00, the public Long Tour leaves Eminönü at 10:35 and Dentur's first loop leaves Kabataş at 10:30. Platform breakfast cruises show their departure times in the booking calendar. In winter the sun rises after 08:00, so there is no early sunrise to catch.
Is a morning cruise better than a sunset cruise?
For photos of Dolmabahçe and Çırağan and for quieter boats, yes. For the sunset and the lit bridges, no. Many visitors do a morning ferry and an evening sunset or dinner cruise on different days.
Where does Le Vapeur Magique leave from?
From Karaköy pier. The operator asks guests to arrive 30 minutes before departure. Check the exact landing on your voucher, because Karaköy has several piers close together.
