Who Golden City Tours is

Golden City Tours® is an Istanbul travel agency with its office in Beşiktaş. Its website shows a licence number next to a link to TÜRSAB, the Turkish association of travel agencies; the company's legal name is not published. It sells group sunset, afternoon and night cruises, a private yacht, and land-and-boat days that pair a sunset cruise with a Dolmabahçe Palace tour or a Chora and Balat walk.

The group sunset cruise is its main product and the one sold on GetYourGuide.

The boat and the pier

  • Meeting point: Kabataş Square, where the cruise also ends. Kabataş is the end of the T1 tram and of the F1 funicular from Taksim. Several yacht landings line the waterfront here, so check the voucher for the exact one; see our Kabataş pier guide.
  • Group: up to 40 guests on the sunset cruise. Under Turkish rules a commercial yacht carries at most 36 passengers, so a boat sold for up to 40 is legally a passenger boat styled as a yacht. That is common in Istanbul, and it tells you the deck will be full.
  • Private yacht: the company's private boat takes groups of up to 15 at the advertised price. Its two private-yacht pages give different maximum capacities (21 in one place, up to 40 in another), so confirm the number for your group in writing.

The route: all the way to the second bridge

Golden City publishes the route of its sunset cruise on its product page:

Kabataş → Dolmabahçe → Çırağan → Ortaköy → 15 July Martyrs Bridge → Bebek → Rumeli Hisarı → Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge → Anadolu Hisarı → Beylerbeyi → Üsküdar → Maiden's Tower → Topkapı and Hagia Sophia from the water → Galata Bridge → Galataport → Kabataş.

That is the full two-hour loop. Many sunset boats turn near the first bridge or around Rumeli Hisarı; this one reaches the second bridge, crosses, and comes down the Asian shore. For each sight on the way, see landmarks seen from the water.

On board: the guide, the snacks and the bar

  • Guide: a professional live guide speaking English.
  • Included: baklava, cookies, nuts, seasonal fruit, Turkish tea, homemade lemonade and bottled water. There is no meal.
  • Extra: alcohol from the bar on board (prices not published), tips, and hotel transfers (€100 one way or €150 return for up to 6 people, booked with the company).
  • Duration: 2 hours.

If you want wine included, Golden City's separate group night cruise comes with wine, treats and live violin music. It is one of the few shared Bosphorus boats that includes wine; others are listed in the sunset cruise guide.

On the Dolmabahçe combo, remember that the palace is closed on Mondays and that a foreign visitor's ticket costs 2,000 TL at the gate; see Dolmabahçe and a Bosphorus cruise.

What travelers say

The GetYourGuide listing holds a 4.9 rating from more than 4,000 reviews, one of the largest review bases of any Bosphorus sunset cruise. We have no detailed review themes to report. What a booker should check instead:

  • the option name and duration before paying;
  • the departure time for your date against the company's sunset table;
  • whether you want to pay bar prices for a drink at sunset, or bring the budget for it.

How to book and cancel

  1. On GetYourGuide: free cancellation up to 24 hours before on most listings, and you can reserve now and pay later. Questions go through the platform.
  2. Direct: book on goldencitytours.com. Cancellation terms are the company's own; read them before you pay, and confirm by e-mail through the site rather than by phone.
  3. Weather: if lodos or a storm stops the boat, the captain decides; the platform or the company rebooks or refunds under its terms.

Alternatives to Golden City

  • A smaller group: Stambultour caps its yacht at 16 guests, from Azapkapı by Karaköy, but with an app guide and a shorter route.
  • The cheapest sunset yacht: İstanbul Efe Yat, from about $17, up to 30 guests.
  • A sunset yacht with a stop on the Asian side: see yacht with an Asian-side stop.
  • A boat for your group only: compare Golden City's €400 private yacht with the others on the private yacht page.

Every company we have reviewed is on the operators page.
