Kadıköy pier: ferries, fares and the Asian side's busiest landing

Kadıköy is a cluster of landings, not one pier: Şehir Hatları, Turyol, Dentur and İDO boats leave for Eminönü, Karaköy, Beşiktaş, Kabataş and the Princes' Islands. A crossing costs 65.21 TL with İstanbulkart; Bosphorus cruises from here are rare.

Kadıköy pier is where Istanbul's Asian side meets the water: a row of separate landings along the waterfront, a five-minute walk from the market lanes and the metro to Sabiha Gökçen airport. Most visitors arrive here by commuter ferry from the European side, often on a food tour, and leave the same way. It is a transport hub, not a cruise port; for Bosphorus tours you usually cross to Üsküdar or back to Eminönü.

Which landing is which

Several companies run their own piers within a short walk of each other, so the first job is to find the right one:

  • Şehir Hatları (the municipal ferry company) has two landings: Yeni Kadıköy, and the pier serving Beşiktaş and the Princes' Islands (Adalar).
  • Turyol (a co-operative of boat owners) uses its Kadıköy Metro pier on Rıhtım Caddesi, next to the Beşiktaş ferry pier, plus a second landing at Çayırbaşı ("Kadıköy 2").
  • Dentur Avrasya boats to Kabataş and Beşiktaş and İDO sea buses also call here.
  • The summer Moonlight (Mehtap) tour boards at the old Kadıköy (Eski) pier.

Read the destination board above each turnstile. Şehir Hatları, Turyol and Dentur charge the same fare for the same route, so take whichever leaves first. Turyol lists its piers on turyol.com.

Ferries from Kadıköy: where they go and what they cost

The municipality (İBB) fare table, valid since 20 July 2026, applies to Şehir Hatları, Turyol and Dentur alike:

From Kadıköy to Fare with İstanbulkart
Eminönü, Karaköy or Beşiktaş 65.21 TL
Kabataş 62.70 TL
Üsküdar 62.70 TL
Ortaköy 71.07 TL
Princes' Islands (city ferry) 151.23 TL (paper ticket 171.89 TL)

Pay with an İstanbulkart (165 TL for the card) or tap a contactless bank card, which is charged 120 TL per ride. There is no cash on board, under-7s ride free and fares double from 00:30 to 05:30. Details are on istanbulkart.istanbul.

Two less obvious lines start here. A Golden Horn (Haliç) ferry runs from Kadıköy to Eyüpsultan via Kasımpaşa, Fener, Hasköy and Sütlüce in about 50 minutes, the only boat that sails the whole Horn; see the Golden Horn guide. And a Bostancı–Moda–Karaköy–Kabataş line links Moda's own pier with the European side for 76.90 TL. In summer, Şehir Hatları also runs night sailings on Kadıköy–Karaköy–Beşiktaş on Friday and Saturday nights.

Getting to Kadıköy pier

  • From Sabiha Gökçen airport: the M4 metro runs from the airport to Kadıköy. Then take the ferry to Eminönü, Karaköy or Beşiktaş. Metro plus ferry keeps you off the bridge traffic entirely.
  • From Moda: the T3 nostalgic tram, or a walk along the shore.
  • From the European side: any ferry above. From Sultanahmet, walk or take the T1 tram to Eminönü; from Taksim, the F1 funicular to Kabataş.
  • From Üsküdar: a ferry for 62.70 TL.

Bosphorus cruises from Kadıköy

Very few. The public Moonlight (Mehtap) tour calls at Kadıköy at 18:05, sails up to Anadolu Kavağı and is back in Kadıköy at about 00:30. It runs only on Saturdays in the summer timetable (late June to early September) and costs 730 TL for foreign visitors (365 TL for citizens). It is not running now. Turyol says it runs scheduled Bosphorus tours from its Kadıköy pier as well as from Eminönü, but publishes no times or prices; ask at the booth.

For anything else, cross first:

  • To Üsküdar (62.70 TL) for the Dentur Avrasya tour: a non-stop 75-minute loop to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, hourly 12:30–19:30, 250 TL at the booth or 200 TL online, children up to 10 free.
  • To Eminönü (65.21 TL) for the Şehir Hatları Short Tour (14:40) or Long Tour (10:35), or the hourly Turyol tour from its Golden Horn-side pier. Note that the Long Tour costs 640 TL for foreign visitors (320 TL for citizens).

None of the platform cruises picks up from Kadıköy hotels: pick-ups cover central European-side hotels only. Staying here, you take the ferry to the meeting point. Compare the options in the public ferry guide and the sightseeing cruise guide.

Princes' Islands from Kadıköy

This is where Kadıköy beats the European piers. Two services call here:

  • Şehir Hatları island ferries, 151.23 TL with İstanbulkart (171.89 TL paper ticket).
  • The Turyol islands boat, which leaves Eminönü hourly and calls at Kadıköy Metro pier between about 10:10 and 14:10; return boats leave Büyükada 14:15–18:15 (also 19:15 on weekends). Turyol charges 230 TL per leg at its booth.

Island tours sold online collect only from European-side hotels, so from Kadıköy the ferry is simpler and cheaper. On bayram (religious holiday) days the city ferries are normally free and the islands are at their most crowded. For the islands themselves, see the Princes' Islands guide.

Around the pier: the market, Çiya and Moda

Five minutes from the landings is the Çarşı, the market lanes around the fish market, where food tours from the European side end. Here too is Çiya: three separate restaurants a few metres apart, of which Çiya Sofrası has the counter of regional home cooking. North of the market, the Yeldeğirmeni streets carry the murals of the Mural İstanbul festival (since 2012); south is Moda, with vintage shops on Recaizade Sokak. Ferries arriving from Eminönü pass the old Haydarpaşa station on the way in.

If you want a guide for this side, the food tour with ferry guide compares the tours, and the Asian side guide covers Üsküdar and Çamlıca.

Weather, nights and New Year's Eve

  • Lodos. The south-west gale, worst in December, cancels the exposed Marmara-side lines first. On 3 January 2026, Bostancı–Moda–Karaköy–Kabataş and Kadıköy–Üsküdar–Ortaköy were among the suspended routes. The M4 and Marmaray rail lines are the fallback; check cancellations on sehirhatlari.istanbul.
  • Late returns. Fares double after 00:30, and not every line runs late; check the last boat before dinner in Kadıköy.
  • New Year's Eve. Kadıköy has held its own New Year's celebrations with fireworks in recent years; plans are announced in late December.
  • Wheelchair access on Istanbul ferries is patchy. A couple of Kadıköy berths, including the Dentur boat to Kabataş at Yeni Kadıköy, are listed as step-free; ask at the booth.
