Bosphorus cruise operators come in four kinds: public ferry companies, the owners of the big dinner ships, agencies that sell seats on other people's boats, and the booking platforms that resell all of them. The most useful thing to know before booking is that several agencies sell seats on the same few boats. A "Bosphorus dinner cruise" from Kabataş may be sold under five names and still end up on one of a handful of ships, and a "luxury yacht" for $8 is a big tour boat with an indoor saloon.
We review each company for someone deciding whether to book it: what it really is, which pier it uses, what the price includes, and what to book instead when something does not add up. We do not accept payment for reviews, and the scores are our own.
How to find out who runs your cruise
- Read the pier first. Karaköy dinner boats are Turyol's Bosfor, Orient Bosphorus or Le Vapeur Magique; the Kabataş landings serve Mega Lüfer, the Dentur tour pier and many agencies.
- Open the product page, not just the search card. Tiqets prints the legal supplier on every product; GetYourGuide shows an activity provider line on the page.
- Look for a boat name. Mega Lüfer 1, 2 and 3, the Bosfor, a 20 m yacht: a named boat is a good sign; "luxury mega yacht" on its own is not.
- Check the group size. Under Turkish rules a commercial yacht carries at most 36 passengers; anything bigger is a tour boat.
- Ask for the agency's TÜRSAB licence number and street address if you book direct.
The public carriers: Şehir Hatları, Turyol and Dentur Avrasya
Three companies run the public boats, and on ordinary commuter routes they charge the same İstanbulkart fare. Their tours are the cheapest way onto the water.
- Şehir Hatları is the municipal ferry company. Its Long Tour to Anadolu Kavağı (640 TL for foreign visitors, 320 TL for citizens) and Short Tour (340 / 170 TL) sell only at the pier booth, not on the platforms (sehirhatlari.istanbul).
- Turyol is a co-operative of motor-boat owners, not a company. It runs city ferries, an hourly Bosphorus tour from its own Eminönü pier (about 300 TL), the Princes' Islands boat (230 TL per leg) and a separate business: the Bosfor dinner ship, 601 passengers, from Karaköy at 20:30 (turyol.com).
- Dentur Avrasya is a private ferry company. Its Bosphorus tour is a non-stop loop of about 75 minutes to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge from Kabataş, Beşiktaş and Üsküdar, 250 TL at the booth or 200 TL online. It is the boat inside the Istanbul Tourist Pass and most Headout ticket+cruise combos (denturavrasya.com).
Dinner-cruise ships and agencies
The dinner market looks crowded on the platforms, but the boarding points narrow it down quickly.
- Mega Lüfer is a brand of big dinner boats marketed as "yachts", sold by HGR Cruise Travel Agency from the Kadoil landing at Kabataş, sailing at 20:45. Its GetYourGuide dinner cruise has more than 75,000 reviews, the most of any listing. Soft drinks are in the base ticket, alcohol is extra. On Tiqets, "Mega Lüfer" is a different product: a daytime sightseeing cruise from Balat.
- Turyol Bosfor (above): the one dinner ship with a published capacity and direct prices, 50 USD or 80 USD with alcohol, transfer included; direct tickets are non-refundable (bosfordinnercruise.com).
- Orient Bosphorus, the cruise arm of the Orient House Turkish-night brand, leaves from Karaköy at €50, €70 or €120 by tier, sold direct only.
- Bosphorus Tours is Velena Travel, a Sultanahmet agency with its own day yacht; its dinner cruises use the Dentur landing at Kabataş, and it sells its dinners and yachts on Tiqets under its own name.
- Istambul Travel is known only through its GetYourGuide listing; we found no company website or licence number.
- Le Vapeur Magique, a dining boat operating since 1976 according to its site, sails from Karaköy for breakfast, five-o'clock tea and dinner; its Headout listing has no reviews yet.

Yacht and sightseeing-boat suppliers
This is where labels mislead most. The cheap "yacht" listings are big shared boats, while the real small yachts cost about $17–75 per person and carry 16 to 40 people.
- Stambultour: the genuinely small group, at most 16 on a 20 m yacht, boarding at Azapkapı near Karaköy, with an app guide. Its own website was down when we checked.
- Golden City Tours: sunset yacht from Kabataş Square with a live English guide, up to 40 guests, going as far as the second bridge; €50 direct (goldencitytours.com).
- Sea & Land Travel: an €8–10 seat on a big shared tour boat from Eminönü with an app guide in 11 languages. Not a yacht.
- İstanbul Efe Yat: a popular sunset listing on GetYourGuide; we found no website or licence, so everything beyond the listing is unconfirmed.
- Travelgroup: the cheapest cruise on GetYourGuide, about $6, which is a ticket for the hourly tour boats at Turyol's Eminönü pier; the company's identity is unproven.
- Travels in Istanbul: a licensed agency running €10 guided boat tours from Eminönü pier five times a day, with an optional Asian-side stop on GetYourGuide.
- GetYourGuide Originals: a sunset yacht designed by GetYourGuide and run by a local licensed partner, not by GetYourGuide itself.
Other sellers appear only as names on Tiqets: Travelpedia (an Eskişehir agency reselling a private yacht, a Golden Horn sunset yacht and a dinner table), Cosmic Tickets (attraction + cruise combos), Aljazeera Istanbul (Pierre Loti combos and an islands day), Tourmania (non-refundable listings) and Klook (the Mega Lüfer daytime cruise). For private charters, see the private yacht guide.

If you would rather start from the cruise than the company, the cruises hub, the dinner cruise guide, the sunset cruise guide and how to choose work through the options by budget and time of day. The piers guide explains which landing belongs to whom.
Who operates the Bosphorus dinner cruises?
A handful of boats carry most guests: the Mega Lüfer boats from Kabataş (sold by HGR Cruise Travel Agency), Turyol's Bosfor ship from Karaköy, Orient Bosphorus from Karaköy and the boats using Dentur's Kabataş tour pier. Many agencies sell seats on these same boats under their own names.
Which Bosphorus cruise companies are public and which are private?
Şehir Hatları is the municipal ferry company; Dentur Avrasya is a private ferry company; Turyol is a co-operative of boat owners. Everything sold on the booking platforms is run by private agencies or boat owners.
Is Mega Lüfer a real yacht?
Mega Lüfer is a brand of big dinner-cruise boats marketed as yachts. Under Turkish rules a commercial yacht carries at most 36 passengers, so a dinner boat for hundreds is a tour boat, whatever the listing calls it.
How do I know which company runs my GetYourGuide cruise?
Open the product page and look for the activity provider line, the meeting point and the boat name. Many big listings have generic titles, so check before paying.
Are your operator reviews sponsored?
No. We earn a commission when you book through GetYourGuide, Headout or Tiqets, at no extra cost to you, but no operator pays for a review and the scores are our own.
