What GetYourGuide Originals is, and who runs the boat

GetYourGuide is the Berlin-based activities platform, founded in 2009. Since August 2018 it has sold some tours under its own Originals label: products it designs and a local licensed partner runs. The Bosphorus sunset yacht is one of them.

The key point: GetYourGuide does not own or crew the yacht. A local operator does, and GetYourGuide names that operator in the "activity provider" line on the live listing. That line is the only reliable source for who runs the boat, so don't take any third-party claim about it at face value. Open the listing, read the provider line, and if you want to know more about the boat, look that company up.

One more detail: the current listing title, "Istanbul: Bosphorus Sunset Cruise on a Luxury Yacht", no longer carries the "Originals" prefix it once had. Look for the Originals badge on the page if the label matters to you.

The boat and the pier: what the listing says, and what to check

The listing summary promises a relaxing evening on a luxury yacht, the lights of the towers, bridges and landmarks after dark, and snacks and drinks on board. It does not give the boat's name, its size, the number of guests or the boarding pier.

What to check before you pay:

  • Meeting point. Most shared sunset yachts board at Kabataş, either at the "Dolmabahçe Mosque" landing by the petrol station opposite the tram stop or nearby. Others leave from Azapkapı (Karaköy) or Ortaköy, and some end at a different pier from where they start. The exact point is on the listing and your voucher. The Kabataş pier guide explains the layout there.
  • Group size. Under Turkish rules a commercial yacht carries at most 36 passengers; a "yacht" for 40 or more is a tour boat styled as one. Ask for the maximum group size if "luxury" is the reason you are paying more.
  • Drinks. On shared sunset yachts, wine is included only on specific products. "Drinks" on most boats means soft drinks, tea and coffee. If you want a glass of wine at sunset, confirm it, or pick a product that names it.
  • Departure time. A sunset cruise should leave about 75–90 minutes before sunset: around 17:00 in mid-October, 16:15 in December and 19:15 in June and July. Check that the slot you pick matches the season.

The route and the sunset

A 2.5-hour sunset cruise has time to go past the first bridge, up toward Rumeli Hisarı and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and back down after dark. The listing does not publish the exact turning point, so treat that as typical rather than promised.

The sun always sets on the European side. Sit on the left going north and on the right coming back. In mid-October it drops behind the Süleymaniye skyline as seen from the water off the Maiden's Tower, and in December behind Topkapı and Hagia Sophia. Blue hour lasts only about half an hour after sunset, and that is when the bridge lights come on, which is why the 2.5-hour format suits this product. Month-by-month times are on the sunset cruise page.

Price compared with the other sunset yachts

The Originals yacht starts at about $56. The other big shared sunset yachts on GetYourGuide:

Cruise From Rating Note
Originals sunset yacht $56 4.8 (1,534) 2.5 h, snacks and drinks
Golden City Tours, sunset with live guide $21 4.9 (4,096) Live English guide, to the second bridge
Stambultour, small-group yacht $39 4.9 (4,336) At most 16 guests, from Azapkapı
Sunset yacht with live guide (456630) $34 4.9 (768) 2.5 h, snacks, juice, baklava
Sunset cruise with snacks and wine (431351) $29 4.8 (131) Wine included, from Ortaköy
Efe Yat sunset yacht $17 4.7 (2,273) Light snacks and fruit

Prices are "from" figures that move daily; the boxes below show today's. On ratings and reviews, Golden City and Stambultour match or beat the Originals product for less money. The premium buys the GetYourGuide label, not a better-reviewed boat, and 456630 also runs for 2.5 hours.

What travelers say

The number that matters is 4.8 from 1,534 reviews. That is a large base, and it says the product delivers what it promises for most guests. On the listing itself, sort the reviews by most recent and look for three things: the boat's size and how crowded it felt, whether the guide or commentary was live, and what "drinks" turned out to mean.

How to book and cancel

The product is sold only on GetYourGuide. Most GetYourGuide listings allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start and offer reserve now, pay later, so you can hold a sunset seat while your plans settle. Confirm both on this listing before you book. If wind or weather stops the boat, the operator decides, and GetYourGuide rebooks or refunds under its terms. Bring a layer: operators warn that the open deck gets windy, and it cools quickly after sunset.

Alternatives to the GetYourGuide Originals yacht

  • Same idea, live guide, much cheaper: the Golden City Tours sunset yacht from Kabataş.
  • A really small group: Stambultour, at most 16 guests on a 20-m yacht from Azapkapı.
  • The budget option: the Istanbul Efe Yat sunset yacht. It is well reviewed, though the company behind it is hard to identify.
  • Wine at sunset: a product that names wine in the title; see the romantic and proposal cruise page.
  • Golden Horn and Bosphorus at sunset with a guide: a 2.5-hour yacht from Kabataş sold at the same price on all three platforms.
