Travels in Istanbul Bosphorus tour review: €10 with a live guide

Travels in Istanbul runs five 2-hour Bosphorus boat tours a day from Eminönü at €10, with an English-speaking guide on board. It is a tour boat, not a yacht, and the Asian-side stop sold on GetYourGuide is barely described.

The Travels in Istanbul Bosphorus tour is the cheapest way we found to cruise the strait with a person, not an app, explaining what you see: €10 for two hours from Eminönü, up to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and back. The catch is that the boat is an ordinary tour boat and the optional Asian-side stop sold on GetYourGuide is not explained anywhere we could check, so book it for the guide and the price, not for the stop.

Who Travels in Istanbul is

Travels in Istanbul Adventure Tourism is a travel agency with a TÜRSAB (Association of Turkish Travel Agencies) licence and an address in Pendik, on the Asian side of the city. Its own site, travelsinistanbul.com, sells the boat tours directly at €10 and publishes the timetable, the meeting point and what is included. On GetYourGuide the same tours appear as "2–3 Hour Day Cruises with Optional Asian Side Stop".

The agency calls its product a "boat tour", which is accurate. It is a shared tour boat of the kind that works the Eminönü waterfront, not a yacht. Under Turkish rules a commercial yacht carries at most 36 passengers; at €10 a seat you are on a bigger boat than that.

The boat and the pier at Eminönü

All five departures meet at "Eminönü Pier". That label covers more than one landing: the Şehir Hatları booths east of the Galata Bridge, Turyol's pier on the Golden Horn side, and the spots where agencies board their groups. The operator does not name the exact berth in its public pages, so check the voucher, and if it is unclear, ask by email the day before. The T1 tram stops at Eminönü and Marmaray at Sirkeci. Our Eminönü pier guide maps the boarding points.

Eminönü's waterfront is also where touts sell "Bosphorus tours" on the quay. If someone approaches you claiming to be from your tour, check that the name matches your booking before following them.

The operator's landmark list runs up to Rumeli Hisarı and Anadolu Hisarı, the two fortresses facing each other at the narrows, and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. That is the full standard loop: up the European shore past Dolmabahçe and Ortaköy, under the first bridge, to the second bridge, and back along the Asian shore past Beylerbeyi. Sit on the left going north and on the right coming back.

  2. Afternoon tour, back 15:00

  3. Late-afternoon tour, back 17:00Light on the Asian shore

  4. Sunset tour, back 20:00The operator says this slot follows sunset times; check the actual time for your date

  5. Night tour, back 22:00After dark from mid-August to early May; lit bridges

The sunset slot needs a check. Sunset in Istanbul runs from 17:37 in early December to 20:42 in late June, and the best boarding time is 75–90 minutes before it. A boat at a fixed 18:00 would be back before sunset from May to mid-August and would leave after sunset in winter. The operator says the slot is scheduled by sunset times, so confirm the hour on your voucher. Our sunset cruise guide has the month-by-month times.

The Asian-side stop: what we know

The GetYourGuide title promises an "optional Asian side stop" and a 2–3-hour duration, while the operator's own timetable shows 2-hour tours and does not describe a stop. One guest review on the operator's site mentions a stop on the Asian side with about an hour to eat and walk. We could not confirm the village or the length, so treat the stop as unconfirmed and ask before booking if it matters to you.

If setting foot in Asia is the goal, there are clearer options. The yacht tours with a stop at Kanlıca give you 30 minutes in the village famous for yoghurt with powdered sugar (at your own cost). Or take a commuter ferry: Eminönü to Üsküdar costs 58.52 TL with an İstanbulkart, the city transport card. Our yacht with Asian-side stop and Asian side guides compare them.

Prices and booking

Directly, every departure costs €10 per person; children under 3 are free and everyone from 3 pays the adult price. On GetYourGuide the 2–3 Hour Day Cruises with Optional Asian Side Stop start at about $11 and had 4.6 stars from more than 1,500 reviews when this page was updated. Platform prices move with the date, so compare on the day.

Booking on GetYourGuide gives you the platform's cancellation terms (most listings cancel free up to 24 hours before; check the line on the listing) and its support if the tour is cancelled. Booking direct means dealing with the agency by email. Either way, food and extra drinks are not part of the €10.

What travelers should check

The GetYourGuide rating is good for a cheap boat, and the live guide is the feature that sets this tour apart. No consistent complaint themes are documented, so check these points yourself:

  • The exact boarding point at Eminönü, in your voucher.
  • The sunset time for your date, if you book the sunset slot.
  • Whether the Asian-side stop is included in the option you choose, where it is and how long it lasts.
  • The guide's language. The operator promises an English-speaking guide; other languages are not mentioned.
  • Weather. In a strong lodos (south-westerly wind) or fog the operator may cancel; the platform then rebooks or refunds under its terms.

Alternatives to Travels in Istanbul

  • The same price level with an app guide: Sea & Land Travel, from about $8, covered boat with tea from Eminönü.
  • The cheapest ticket: Travelgroup, from about $6, for the hourly boats at Eminönü's Turyol pier.
  • A non-stop loop with announcements: Dentur Avrasya, about 75 minutes from Kabataş, Beşiktaş or Üsküdar, 250 TL at the booth or 200 TL online at denturavrasya.com.
  • A live guide on a real yacht at sunset: Golden City Tours, up to the second bridge, from about $21.
